Faculty papers can include historical and administrative records, document the work and research of the faculty member, and can contain significant information on the intellectual and campus life of CSUSM.
Faculty materials we collect:
- Biographical materials (CVs, bibliographies, biographical sketches, etc.)
- Correspondence
- Curricular materials (lecture notes, syllabi, etc.)
- Drafts (only copies that include significant change in content)
- Grant proposals (successful) and final grant reports
- Journals, lab notebooks, etc.
- Newspaper and magazine clippings, press releases, etc.
- Photographs and AV materials
- Records of departmental or university-wide activities, including faculty governance activities, committee work, meeting minutes, reports, etc.
- Speeches and presentations
Faculty materials we may collect:
- Curricular outputs such as zines, papers, etc. Such outputs should free of FERPA concerns and donated with student consent. Some materials may be better suited for ScholarWorks. Contact archives@csusm.edu for consultation
- Drafts (must be copies that include significant change in content)
- Research Records. Research records can be quite complex and large, in terms of physical space and digital storage needs. The University Archives will–within the limits of its limited resources–provide assistance to faculty members in the disposition of research materials. Some materials may be better suited for ScholarWorks. Some legal obligations to retain research records may apply
- Materials with Personally Identifiable Information, depending on nature of information and ability of University Archives to redact and make accessible documents that contain it.
- Books and other publications, such as journals, magazines, and literary manuscripts. Faculty-authored works are collected for CSUSM General Collections, and in most cases donations related to faculty-authored works will be referred to the Acquisitions Lead, DART. In some cases, where the faculty-authored work is unusual, the work may be kept with Special Collections. Some reasons include, but are not limited to: a work that as part of a larger corpus of materials shows evolution from draft to finished product; contains marginalia, signature(s) or inscription(s); a work that is exceedingly rare or scarce; etc.
Faculty materials we do not collect:
- Financial records (bank statements, canceled checks, receipts, invoices, etc.)
- Evaluations (course, student, faculty, etc.)
- Personnel records or other documents with Personal Identifiable Information
- Reprints, off-prints, and preprints (contact ScholarWorks for placement of these materials)
- Student records (exams, graded documents, grade lists, recommendation letters)
