Services for Alumni, Retirees, Community & More
The California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) University Library is open to the public. Information on parking can be found here. All visitors are welcome to:
- Borrow books and items in open collections in the library
- Use the one designated guest computer
- Access campus Wi-Fi
- Access most electronic resources in the Library
- Access federal and state publications in the Library
- Obtain research assistance online or from the Research Help station at the Circulation & Reserves Desk
All library users are expected to adhere to the Library Conduct Policy, and services to the general public are provided subject to availability of staff and resources.
Due to high cost and heavy demand by current students and campus employees, the following resources and services are unavailable:
- Requesting items through resource sharing services (CSU+ and Interlibrary Loan)
- Checking out Library Reserves, and Equipment collection held behind the desk
- Reserving Study Rooms
- Using The Makery
To get a University Library Borrower Card stop by the 3rd Floor Circulation & Reserves Desk with your California driver’s license or identification card.

Public Use of Computers
Visitors may use one of the designated guest workstations in the 2nd Floor Computer Lab or the 3rd Floor Hybrid Learning Center. These guest workstations do not require users to log in, are intended for quick use, and provide basic Internet access to the library’s electronic resources. Software applications, including Microsoft Office, are not available to visitors due to licensing restrictions. It is recommended that users bring a USB flash drive to save documents.
All library users are welcome to bring their own laptops and connect to the CSUSM guest wireless network.
How to Print in the Library
Books and periodicals may be scanned using the 3rd Floor Scan & Print room book scanner. These scans can be emailed to the user or saved to a USB drive.
Library users may print from designated computers or personal devices within the library. The cost of printing is $0.12/page (black and white), $0.25/page (color).

- Add money to your guest printing account using cash or a debit/credit card.

All library users are expected to adhere to the University Library Policy on Appropriate Use of Computer Workstations.
Electronic Resources
Most of our subscription/licensed electronic databases can be accessed from within the library building using designated guest computers or your own personal device. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, remote access is not available for these subscription services. However, your local public library may provide access to a number of electronic databases.
